NRA Basic Instructor

At Apex we teach courses certified by the National Rifle Association. The NRA runs a comprehensive educational system for training both students and instructors alike. These courses are structured to ensure all Instructors, Range Safety personnel, and other essential officers meet a high bar for quality and excellence.

Our team of NRA Certified Instructors are here to train not just students in marksmanship, but also future instructors. We teach students and teachers.

The NRA Basic Instructor Training is a foundational requirement for any NRA Instructor role and it must be renewed every two years. This class must be completed before any Instructor classes in any NRA discipline.

This course covers the NRA’s teaching philosophies and methodologies. Instructor Candidates will learn about the Total Participant Involvement (TIP) method of presenting and training used by instructors in both classroom and range settings. Our goal is to develop certified instructors with the knowledge, skills, and attitude to conduct Basic Firearm Training Courses.

Instruction includes NRA Lesson plans, effective use of training aids & materials, as well as planning, promotion, organization, and presentation of NRA courses. Candidates must pass an open book test with a minimum score of 90.

Successful completion of this course will allow students to go on to take courses in Basic Rifle Instructor, Basic Pistol Instructor, and similar offerings. To maintain certification, this course must be retaken and passed every 2 years.
