NRA Personal Protection in the Home
Everyone deserves to feel safe and secure in their own home. You should be able to lock your door at night and know nothing is going to happen. 99.999% of the time that’s how life goes and nothing bad happens. There is always that small, 0.00001% that things go wrong. In those circumstances, it is essential to be prepared, to have the skills to defend yourself and your home.
The NRA Personal Protection in the Home course teaches basic defensive shooting, strategies for home safety, response to violent confroontations, the laws of self defense, and pistol selection for self defense. Following class time covering these essential concepts, students will put them into practice on the range. Students should expect to fire about 100 rounds for the course.
This course differs from Apex’s other offerings slightly in its structure and requirements. Students must profe basice knowledge prior to taking the course, either through a pre-course exam, presentation of an Armed Services DD-214 with Pistol Qualification, or successful completion of prior NRA courses such as Basic Pistol, FIRST Steps, and Pistol Competitive Shooting.
While most Apex classes are two-parts, featuring a Class Day and a Range Day, Personal Protection in the Home features a third lesson day. Our third lesson features a presentation on Firearmsa nd the Law, the legal aspects of Self Defense. This lesson will be given by a licensed attorney, a Law Enforcement Officer , or an individual certified to instruct in this area of the law by the state.
